EPC contract terms for nuclear power, an energy storage facility near Białystok and biomethane from Komorów
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has agreed the main commercial terms of the EPC contract with Westinghouse and Bechtel, and national road No. 69, costing over PLN 400 million, is being built to the construction site in Choczewo. Greenvolt Power has launched an energy storage facility near Białystok with 200 MW of power and 800 MWh of capacity, and the biomethane plant in Komorów is the first agricultural installation to inject biomethane into the PSG grid. Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka does not expect onshore wind to develop and points to biogas and biomethane. From abroad: another round of talks between the US and Iran, and Brent crude at USD 107.08 per barrel.

Too early for champagne, but there is progress. US giants give ground on Polish nuclear power
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has agreed the main commercial terms of the EPC contract for the power plant in Choczewo with the Westinghouse and Bechtel consortium. Both sides want to close the negotiations by the end of 2026. According to Business Insider Polska, the Americans have agreed that the contract will be governed by Polish law, while detailed elements of the contract and its annexes, including the split of investment costs, remain to be agreed. The second stage of preparatory works and in-depth geological surveys are under way in Choczewo, and in March PEJ submitted an application for a construction licence to the National Atomic Energy Agency.
New road to link the S6 expressway with the nuclear power plant
The new national road No. 69 will link the Łęczyce junction on the S6 expressway with the construction site of Poland's first nuclear power plant in Choczewo municipality. Construction of the 26 km route is valued at over PLN 400 million. The last-mile section is due to be ready by the end of the second quarter of 2027, and the entire connection with the S6 in 2028. The pavement will carry an axle load of 11.5 tonnes and oversize cargo transport. Railway investments worth PLN 3.2 billion and the construction of a marine offloading structure for oversized components are under way in parallel.

One of Poland's largest energy storage facilities launched near Białystok
Greenvolt Power has launched a battery energy storage facility with 200 MW of power and 800 MWh of capacity in Turośń Kościelna near Białystok. From 2028, the facility will enter the capacity market with a 17-year contract for 170 MW. The storage facility consists of 196 containerised LFP battery modules and 49 transformer stations, connected to the transmission grid at 110 kV. The company is completing a twin project in Ełk, due to start operating in the fourth quarter of 2026, and is developing a storage facility with 600 MW of power and 2.4 GWh of capacity in Siedlce.
Poland's first agricultural biomethane plant supplies the PSG gas grid
The Agro-Biogas biomethane plant in Komorów is the first agricultural installation in Poland to inject biomethane into the Polska Spółka Gazownictwa grid. It is expected to produce around 20 GWh of biomethane a year. The 1 MW plant processes manure and slurry from three family farms that keep around 1,600 dairy cows. Axpo, a minority shareholder, will buy the biomethane under a 20-year agreement. PSG has built a high-pressure connection with a capacity of 250 m³/h and has signed 23 agreements to connect further biomethane plants.

Minister Motyka: Onshore wind cannot be counted on. We must bet on biogas and biomethane
Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka sees no prospect of onshore wind development in the coming years following the presidential veto. In his view, biogas and biomethane could replace 20 to 25% of gas consumption in Poland. The minister says the 10H rule will not be lifted in the coming years and that the biogas and biomethane sectors have the best chance of rapid growth. Project financing is to be supported by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) and funds from the new EU financial perspective. Motyka named public opposition, seen among other places in Mazovia, as the biggest barrier.
Trump on further talks with Iran. Oil and gas prices rise, EU monitors supplies
Donald Trump has announced another round of talks with Iran, and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz is pushing up oil and gas prices on global markets. A barrel of Brent cost USD 107.08, up 2.65%. Dutch TTF gas contracts in Amsterdam rose by 0.8% to EUR 72.66 per MWh, and Marco Saalfrank of Axpo does not rule out prices exceeding EUR 100 in winter. Gas storage in Poland is 98.9% full, and across the EU 70.9% full against a five-year average of 86.6%.
