Janusz Steller, He holds a post-doctoral degree (dr hab.). In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at the University of Gdańsk, specialising in theoretical physics. Since then, he has been employed at the Fluid-Flow Machinery Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN) in Gdańsk, which awarded him a doctorate in technical sciences in 1984. In 2019, the Senate of Wrocław University of Science and Technology conferred upon him his post-doctoral degree based on his dissertation and a series of articles concerning the assessment of cavitation resistance in construction materials. From 2008 to 2018, he was the Head of the Cavitation Department at the Hydrodynamics Centre of IMP PAN. Currently, he is employed at the Thermal Energy Centre within the same institute. Professionally, he is involved in researching the phenomenon of cavitation and cavitation erosion, as well as issues related to hydropower. In the past, he also dealt with design calculations for hydraulic turbines and conducted energy and diagnostic research on hydraulic machinery under laboratory and operational conditions. He is the author of numerous expert reports and scientific as well as popular science works on the aforementioned subjects.
Since 2004 on the Management Board of the Hydroelectric Power Plants Society, and since 2017 – President of that Board.
Member of the Editorial Board of the quarterly journal „Hydropower”. From 2004-14 – member of the Management Committee of the European Small Hydropower Association (ESHA). He led teams from IMP PAN and TEW during the implementation of a series of national and European projects concerning cavitation and the development of hydropower (including the recovery of hydraulic energy dissipated in municipal water and sewage systems).
