Dr. Janusz Steller

Instytut Maszyn Przepływowych PAN

Janusz Steller, Ph.D., graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk in 1977, specializing in theoretical physics. Since then, he has been employed at the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk, which awarded him a PhD in technical sciences in 1984. In 2019, the Senate of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology awarded him a habilitation (DSc) degree based on his dissertation and a series of articles on the assessment of cavitation resistance of structural materials. From 2008 to 2018, he headed the Cavitation Department at the Hydrodynamics Center of the IMP PAN. Currently, he is an employee of the Thermal Energy Center at the same institute. Professionally, he studies the phenomena of cavitation and cavitation erosion, as well as issues of hydropower. In the past, he has also been involved in design calculations for water turbines and energy and diagnostic testing of hydraulic machines in laboratory and operational conditions. He is the author of a number of expert opinions and scientific and popular works on the above-mentioned topics.

Since 2004, he has served on the Board of the Hydropower Society, and since 2017, as its President.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of the quarterly "Energetyka Wodna." From 2004 to 2014, he was a member of the Governing Board of the European Small Hydropower Association (ESHA). He led teams at the IMP PAN and TEW during the implementation of a number of national and European projects on cavitation and the development of hydropower (including the recovery of hydraulic energy dissipated in municipal water and sewage systems).

PowerConnect is organised by the Gdańsk International Fair – AMBEREXPO and the Energetyka24 portal
